Kid-isms: October 2011

Max was sitting on my lap, without his diaper on (he's potty training; this is how we do it), and he started saying, "Belly button! Belly button!" I looked down, expecting him to be lifting up his shirt and pointing at his belly button. Found him touching his penis instead. Turns out we need to go over some things.
(And yes, I know this is going to embarrass him later. What else are blogs for but to store priceless memories like this one?)

***

Asher, while I carved our pumpkin, pointing at me, "Cute mommy!"
"Mommy, you are the best mommy in the whole world!"
"Mommy is the best, better than the rest!"
Upon seeing the insides of the pumpkin: "Ew, that's disgusting. I'm not touching that. Mom, you do it."

***

Pointing at computer, several times every single day, Max requests these music videos by name:
"Fire flames!"  Through the Fire and the Flames by Dragonforce, which you can find here.
"Play doh, play doh!" They Know by Drake, which you can find here (clean version). Seriously, you should listen to at least the chorus. You'll understand why Asher started calling it "play doh play doh".
"Ground pound!" Operation Ground and Pound by Dragonforce, which you can find here.
"Bubble pop!" Catchy song with offensive video, found here
To any one of these songs, Max will bounce to the beat and even put a pretend microphone to his mouth. He's even started attempting the big jump they do in "ground pound". Some day I'll post a video of it, if I can figure out the camera.
I'm quite concerned that the kids never request to hear my music, only Steve's. Oh no.

Asher, after being sick all week, "Mom, why does the food go down, and then come back up?"
He was sneaking food and eating it behind my back, before his stomach was ready to digest again.

***

I've got a slight obsession with the "Hallelujah" song lately. The other day, after listening to it over and over, Asher finally said, "What does alujah mean?" I said, "Praise unto God." He said, "Why do you like it so much?"

***

Every night, while falling asleep Max lays in singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. "Twinkle twinkle staaaar! How I wonder what AAAARE!"or Itsy Bitsy Spider, "Izzy pider, water POUT! Down rain, wash pider OUT!"
I.LOVE.THIS.

Joshua does lots of cute things, but rarely says one-liners that would transfer well to written format. Mostly he melts my heart and makes me laugh through facial expression, physical affection, and cute ways he plays with toys and his brothers. Just in case you're wondering why you don't see a lot of Joshua-isms on here. He's almost nine now, so he's not really in that cute little quirky stage where they're still figuring out language.

First Day of School-isms

Joshua:  Mom, I had the BEST DAY!
Me: Really?? Good! Is your teacher nice?
Joshua:  YES! Definitely!

Asher:  Mom, I want to go sledding someday.

Figuring out where we all stand-isms

Joshua's cheer for Mommy:
"Mommy is the best, better than the rest! Gooooo, Mommy!"

Today, while I cleaned their room:
Asher:  "Mommy, did you know that you are the nicest person I've ever met in my whole entire lifetime?"
Me:  "Oh, really? I am? Thanks, Ash!"
Asher:  "Not as sweet as Miss Kenzie and Miss Sien. But... you're nice too!"

Joshua, while looking at baby pictures of Max:
"Max is so cute.. but I wish we didn't have him."

Isms

Max-isms

Max always says "Mmm! Yummies!" when he likes a food or the drink you gave him.
Tonight when I tucked him in, he said, "Hug! Tiss!" (kiss)
I came over to his crib, gave him a hug and kiss, and he said, "Mm! Yummies tiss!"

Max:      Three, four, eight, nine, ten!
Me:      One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
Max:     Yay, Mom!

Asher-ism

Asher (at the grocery store):  Burritos drain my life if I get too close to them.

Joshua-ism

Josh (opening his happy meal toy):  What does it do?
Me (a little too excited): It's a smurf!
Josh: Look on the package. It'll have instructions; it'll say what it does.
Me: It doesn't do anything. It's just a smurf to play with.
Josh: Ugh. (looks on packaging) But what does it do??
Josh (upon discovering that it, in fact, doesn't do anything): Fine. Let's look and see what's next.
(Sighing, checks bottom of happy meal box to see what toy is coming next.)

My kids are getting old. :(

When little boys say things like...

"I want to eat your head off, poopie-head."
or...
"I love you so much, I want to eat my head off."
...or when they're completely shocked that I think they should be brushing their tongue... after 8 years of brushing their teeth. (Apparently I never mentioned it. Oops.)

After a few of those comments, you start to feel like a bad mom.
...until you're tucking them into bed and, after being kissed several times already, they call you back again just to say things like...

"I need to kiss your nose. Then you can go."
or...
"I love you so much, sometimes I can't fall asleep."

Kid-isms of the week

Joshua-ism:
8:45 am, leaving for school
"Mom, I'm going to come home and do my homework right away! Then I'm going to go to scouts, then when I get back from scouts, I'm going to do my homework some MORE!"
He's so old and responsible. It's amazing.

Asher-ism:
8:45 am, leaving for school

Asher *blows kisses*
Mommy *catches kisses*
Mommy *blows kiss back*
Asher *catches kiss*
Asher: Mommy, now I have your heart and you have my heart."

1:05 pm, picking him up from school
Mommy: I missed you today, Asher.
Asher: I missed your eye.
Mommy: Just one of my eyes?
Asher (pointing): That one.

Max-ism:
On Monday, Max was discovered on top of the table playing with hair cutting scissors and eating a bagel (see previous post).

On Tuesday, Max came upstairs covered in gross from head to toe. It took me 35 minutes to find what he had all over him. Before I figured it out (and after I cleaned him up), I said, "Max, where is the yucky? Where is it?"  Max said, "Yuck," took my hand, led me downstairs and over to the garbage can.
Pointing at it, he said, "Yucky."  (FYI: That was not where the yucky was located - he just thought "yucky" and then thought "garbage". Actually he had sheet rock plaster all over himself! Apparently there's a bucket of it in the laundry room? Now I know.)

On Wednesday, Max was discovered on top of the table splashing his hands in Asher's chicken noodle soup, which he had already poured all over himself, the table, the floor, and splashed onto the walls.

On Thursday, Mommy got smarter and cleaned the dang house.

When I Grow Up (Joshua's birthday parties)

This is Josh asking me why he has to do his homework on his birthday.
Today Joshua said to me, "Mom! When I grow up and get bigger, I know what kind of job I want to have! I'm going to/+ make wii games, and I'm gonna make Kirby's Epic Yarn 2!"

A new Wii game from Grandma (Animal Crossing)

Emma, Olivia, Morgan and Avery played Musical Chairs... except, they definitely improved it! Enough chairs for everyone. : )

Avery LOVED it!

My brother Chris flew in from Japan the day of Josh's "friend" party!

Max has been so cuddly lately! He loves his daddy.

Yesterday my sisters and their kids (and me and mine) went to Kaysville Theater to see MegaMind. (it was sold out)

Josh, Max, Noah, Avery, Gabe

Max had a blast eating everything in sight!

Joshy's I'm-Not-Awake-Yet face

"We're making ICE CREAM!"

Eating cupcakes and ice cream

The cupcakes were supposed to be Mario mushrooms... but it didn't really work out.

2-year-olds love cupcakes!

Max thought he was in HEAVEN. We never let him eat things like this.

Asher, Morgan, Emma, Taylor

That's me. Proof that I was there.

Max might very well be Andrew's favorite person too. :)

Josh had kind of a bad attitude.. but that's the age, right? Right?

I Really Liked Seven

We had an interesting evening, including a trip to the emergency room (long story... nutshell: Max may or may not have swallowed something dangerous... didn't show up on an x-ray, so it must have been ok!) and when I tucked the kids into bed, Joshua said the usual, "I love you more than you love me!" which he thinks is HILARIOUS because I say "Not possible" and he says "I love you more than you love me!" over and over until I have to just give in.

Right before I left the room, I whispered, "Tonight is your last night being seven!"

His eyes got really wide (you know, JOSHUA wide), and he said, "Really??"

"Yes, really. Tomorrow when you wake up, you will be eight."

He smiled for a second, then turned it into a frown and said, "Mom... I'm sad. I really liked seven!"

Joshua Lucas, 6 months old

About 10 months

Gorgeous smile from the beginning

Joshua has always been such a happy kid!

He loves me like I didn't even know was possible!

Steve, me, Asher, Joshua - Christmas 2007?

T-Ball age 6

Josh is the most loving brother! He takes such good care of his little brothers!

He loves to go to church with Grandma - he looks forward to it all week! Actually, he loves doing anything with Grandma!

Christmas Eve 2010, he lost a front tooth!
Joshua loves his Teddy - they've been best friends since he was born.
Say goodbye to my little Joshua... he's a great big 8-year-old, and I can hardly keep the tears at bay. How he got so old so fast I will never know, but can't I have just a few more years before he gets big??? Tomorrow he will start scouts... Scouts! I'm too young to be a scout mom, and he's too young to be in scouts. Apparently the Boy Scouts disagree with me, so off he will go. Can't wait to post pictures. :)

What I Didn't Know About Boys

Josh's 1st day of 1st grade

When I found out I was having a boy, it was my birthday and I was five months pregnant. I was scared, but I was sure I would be an ok mom if I had a little girl. My ultrasound was a huge shock to me. I was absolutely positively sure I was going to be told, "It's a girl!" and everything would be okay.

When the doctor said it's a boy, to my everlasting shame, I burst into tears. Oh, I tried to play them off as "tears of joy" or whatever, but let's be honest: a boy was not in my vision.

I told his dad all the way down the elevator and out to the car, "I don't know anything about boys! What am I supposed to do with a boy?? I'm not a boy!"

T-ball with Josh - Summer 2009

Now, let me start out by saying I was mostly wrong. Raising boys is AWESOME, and it requires zero knowledge of what to do with boys. They are boys through and through, from the very beginning, and require no training from you in that department. It is literally built into them to think farts are funny, play keep-away, make unmistakable truck noises from the age of six months, and laugh their heads off when someone burps. Apparently, no matter how much sensitive mothering goes on, that is unavoidable. Example:

This morning, Asher was taking a bath.
Max crawled up to the bath and held up a toy shark.
Asher yelled, "Sharks!! Ah!!!! Don't eat my penis!"
...and held his hands over his... area.
See what I mean? It's hilarious. They both cracked up laughing, and repeated the charade about a hundred times.

Asher & Me - 2009
The other thing I did not know about boys was this: They are just as sweet as girls! (Maybe more... girls have serious attitude.)

"I'm sorry you're sick, Asher."
Asher: (shrugs shoulders) "It just happens!"

Me: "Asher, put your pajamas on."
Asher: "I need someone to help me. It's cold, and my legs are hopping!"
(Sure enough... "hopping" legs trying to stay warm under the blankets.)

Josh: "Mom? Teddy reminds me of you."
I'm sure this won't mean as much to most of you as it does to me, but I have just got to say, it was the BEST compliment EVER. Teddy is Joshua's bestest best friend, and has been since he was born. The fact that Teddy reminds him of me is the sweetest thing on the planet. I almost cried when he said that to me last night in the dark. He whispered it as I walked out of the room, and I could have just melted right there on the floor.

And one Asher-ism, just for fun:
"Mommy? Do... NOT... GO... NEAR... A... HOUSE... THAT... IS... FIRED... UP.  DO NOT!" (He feels very strongly about fire safety.)
Josh, me, Asher - Christmas 2008
I can't even tell you how lucky I am to have my little boys. They are angels, and (even though I'm completely out-numbered) I am loving every minute of them.
